School District Pushes to Close Achievement Gap


In Longmont, Colorado, educators are pushing for the P16 or P20 initiative, which aims to "discover what children at all ages need to know before they transition to the next educational step, and work together to achieve those standards." The initiative involves three different education systems--preschool, K-12 and college, and intermingling them strategically. Such an initiative has been devised to close the achievement gap, especially for minority students. Quality education is essential for healthy mental and physical development so getting children on the right academic path is crucial to their positive growth. Continuity of good education shouldn't be an after thought, but rather should be an issue planned from the onset of school education to alleviate transition problems. Our children deserve to learn without gaps and holes and what better way to avoid such problems than to be able to foresee some of their general future academic plans?
