Norwich Schools' Diversity Positive
New students who have recently enrolled in Greenville Elementary School came from places from far across the world like Puerto Rico, Haiti, and Peru. The school's diversity has encouraged the school's community to embrace diversity through learning and celebrating a multiplicity of cultures. "They get to know other cultures. If you have people from different religions and different cultures together, then you know what they are like. Then whatever you read, you know firsthand what is true," said Shamalia Javed, a native of Pakistan, with three children attending one of the diverse schools in Norwich. This means that students at a young age are capable of being color blind and that parents and educators have the influence to carrying that on. We need to teach our children to celebrate multiculturalism and one big effect is to diversify the school and to change the school system and surrounding communities that help to feed respect for differences.
