Deborah Capone, a single mother from Montauk, New York is President and CEO of As Simple As That.
Deb realized after adopting her daughter from China in 2000 that, while there were many products her new daughter would enjoy, there were few that provided a role model that mirrored her ethnic background and her new family structure. In addition, there were no products that promoted the values of respect, acceptance and celebration of all cultures, choices and 'abilities'.
Determined to give her daughter the tools to navigate her own unique place in the world, Deb began to develop characters and storylines that would fill this void for her daughter and other like her. She launched her company in 2002.
Throughout her 20 career her in publishing, sales and marketing, she successfully launched print publications and developed new revenue streams.
In addition to a successful career, Deb has considerable experience in the not-for-profit world as a board member for the Make-a-Wish Foundation of the Mid-Atlantic and Metro New York Chapters. She sits on the International Parents Committee at Spence-Chapin, a leading adoption agency in New York City.
Beginning in March 2004, Deb will launch the As Simple As That Foundation and will join forces with the National Marrow Donor Program to increase the number of ethnically diverse bone marrow and blood stem cell donors worldwide.
Deb is an engaging and charismatic speaker with many television, radio and print interviews to her credit. She has also presented workshops and delivered numerous talks about adoption, race and culture to parents, children and educators.
Deb has a B.A. in Speech Communication from the University of Virginia and an MBA from Emory University, and is the mother of a four-year-old Chinese-American daughter, upon whom the character of Rain is based.
